Eligibility Criteria for Membership

Applications are invited from those who hold a professional qualification as a medical doctor, dentist, or, as a psychologist, possess qualifications which would make them acceptable for Graduate Membership of the British Psychological Society and be engaged in a form of experimental or clinical practice which is acceptable to the Council of BSCAH.

Applications are also invited from suitably qualified persons who are registered members of a recognised (to the satisfaction of BSCAH) therapeutic, scientific or academic profession and who have a legitimate reason for using hypnosis in their professional work, for instance, those with recognised service level qualifications such as Post Graduate Diploma Level Counsellor, UKCP registration, Accreditation with BACP, Allied Health Professionals or Nursing Professionals E.g. Speech therapists, physiotherapists, specialist nurses.

If you are in doubt as to whether you meet the membership criteria then please contact National Office with details of your CV and training (preferably electronically) who will then pass your query to the Academic and Accreditation Committee for decision.

Holding a degree in psychology is NOT in itself a clinical qualification and BSCAH does not accept hypnotherapy qualifications from lay organisations as clinical qualifications.

For those who wish to pursue research rather than clinical interests, a degree in psychology IS acceptable and those with first or further degrees who are pursuing academic careers fulfil the criteria of eligibility.

Membership Fee

Annual membership fee £60 (including electronic access to Contemporary Hypnosis) by direct debit, £75 by cheque. For student and overseas rates please contact the National Office Secretary.
