The Art of Therapeutic Storytelling     - with Stefan Hammel

Saturday 29th & Sunday 30th September 2018

The Westerwood Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort

£135 – One day

£175 – Two days

Our weekend at Westerwood is open to doctors, dentists, psychologists, psychotherapists, nursing and midwifery. We would welcome interest from other professions dealing with the human condition. Stefan is a renowned Ericksonian storyteller and a regular on the European and International hypnosis circuit. The human condition is fascinating and complicated. Often in the caring professions saying the right thing at the right time can be literally lifesaving. This promises to be an excellent weekend - why not join us?"

About the seminar
It seems that storytelling has always been a part of hypnotherapy a well as of systemic therapy and other forms of solution-focussed short term therapies. Indeed, the use of metaphors and anecdotes is known since the times of the ancient orient and has stayed one oft he most effective forms of consultation till this day. Stories can be introduced by the therapist or they can be one of the client’s which the therapist has picked up and reframed. The conversation partners can also develop them together. But how do I discover a useful story and how do I narrate them? What makes a story useful for therapy after all? This seminar will give you techniques for developing useful therapeutic stories spontaneously during a session and for presenting them in a way so they can unfold their therapeutic potential. It is the target of the seminar to learn how to…  invent therapeutic stories in line with your clients‘ needs and his or her view of life  find anecdotes opening up new options for unique situations at any time  formulate narrations for achieving therapeutic results  embed narrations into a therapeutic conversation as well as into a hypnotic trance  use „hypnotic“ stories in „awake“ states with high therapeutic efficacy  transform problem-focussed metaphers told by clients into solutionfocussed metaphors that integrate into their construction of reality The seminar outline will include a lot of practical experience using demonstrations, exercises, individual feedback and discussions. Examples will be given on how to use storytelling in therapy with PTSD, depression, and other psychological disorders. The goal is to acquire skills that will be fully available for practical use in therapy sessions the day after
